ATI Continues to sponsor NC State Motorsports Team

Team gains design accolades for its Formula and Baja cars

Apex, NC,  2月 2, 2007

For over 4 years ATI Industrial Automation has continued to sponsor the NC State Wolfpack Motorsports Team. The team is a student-run organization at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The students design, build, and compete with two different forms of racecars in annual collegiate competitions. The Formula SAE car is a single seater, open wheel vehicle powered by a 600cc turbocharged, motorcycle engine. These cars are built for optimum acceleration and handling capabilities, launching from 0-60mph in just over 3 seconds and able to sustain a 1.5g turn. The Mini Baja car is an off road vehicle powered by a spec 10hp Briggs & Stratton engine. With 13 inches of suspension travel, the car is built to traverse a variety of obstacles and jumps. The cars are designed and built from scratch by the students every year, giving rise to many technical innovations and unique design ideas. In 2005, the Wolfpack Motorsports team received the Polaris Innovative Suspension Design award and last year they placed 6th/120 in Formula competition and 29th/140 in Baja with a 7th place finish in design.

For many years, ATI has supported NC State's co-operative education program by employing students to gain "real world" experience. Several NC State graduates have attained engineering positions within ATI. More information on NC State's Wolfpack Motorsports Team can be found here.
